Las Candelas, a Glendale-based non-profit organization helping emotionally challenged children in the community, hosted its 62nd Anniversary Celebration Benefit Fashion Show, Luncheon, and Boutique on March 2 at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel & Convention Center. The theme for the event was “Surrounded by Love.”

Several staff from Hillsides, a premier provider of child welfare services in Los Angeles County headquartered in Pasadena, were guests. Las Candelas has provided financial support and volunteer activities to Hillsides Education Center (HEC) and Hillsides program for transition-aged youth, Youth Moving On, for more than 20 years.

“Las Candelas is such a wonderful component to the HEC community, bringing assemblies, a school store, and field trips to our school, which enrich the learning and lives of our students,” said Ryan Eisenberg, the director of HEC, who attended the luncheon. “The members give so much of themselves and get involved directly with the students, which I love.”

During the event, Las Candelas celebrated three long-time active members: Ann Ways, a member for 40 years, Marilyn Butler, a member for 37 years, and Marian Corbett, a member for 36 years. Guests were treated to an opportunity drawing and a fashion show featuring the collection of fashion designer Ali Rahimi, who is known for dressing “A-List” celebrities for their red carpet appearances, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Angela Bassett.

Hillsides provides high quality care, advocacy, and innovative services for children, youth, and their families in Los Angeles County, many of them in the foster care system.
