Hillsides, a Southern California foster care and mental health charity, held a Client Open House at its new Bienvenidos Family Resource Centers, Arcadia on June 26. The office, which offers mental health, wraparound, and foster care and adoption services, recently relocated from Pasadena to 50 East Foothill Blvd. in Arcadia.

Some 100 clients, staff, and invited guests enjoyed tacos, drinks, cupcakes, raffle prizes, a photo booth, yoga, and take-home swag bags. Hillsides Chief Program Officer Miriam Gonzalez and Hillsides President and CEO Joseph M. Costa welcomed the clients to the new location, and two clients spoke about how Hillsides has helped them overcome family crises.

One client, Colette Lohr, detailed how the wraparound team of Nancy Sepulveda, Jennifer Roman Gonzalez, Eddie Rodriguez, and Hector Valadez helped her and her children get back on their feet after experiencing domestic abuse. “You guys have been a part of the family for the last several months and I really appreciate it so much,” she said to the team.

The new location consolidates Hillsides’ wraparound program, which formerly functioned out of two offices. Wraparound services offer a multi-disciplinarian team approach to develop and implement a child’s mental health needs. The Arcadia location will also positively impact the agency’s foster care and adoption program. “There is a huge need for more resource (formerly foster) parents, and this move will allow us to reach out to the community and surrounding area for potential new resource families in Los Angeles County,” said Cindy Macias, senior director of the program. The Arcadia office also offers clients and staff a bright, modern, and roomy space.

Hillsides, with its affiliate Bienvenidos, runs seven Family Resource Centers throughout Southern California, from Palmdale to Pomona. The centers provide mental health support, parenting classes, and prevention services to help children, youth, and families resolve behavioral health problems, and additional crucial resources. All practices are evidence-based, which means they are founded on proven research and drive by measurable outcomes. The centers also offer mental health services in several school districts because children’s needs are often first detected in the school setting.
