The holiday season can be a time to lift everyone’s spirits, bringing together family and friends while also being charitable. Guests at Hillsides Guild’s annual holiday celebration at the Parkway Grill in Pasadena took time to mingle with friends as they raised funds for children’s programs at Hillsides, a Pasadena children’s charity that also serves families in Los Angeles County. Guests enjoyed fine dining, entertainment and the company of each other.

Co-chairing the event, Beth Yale and Nancy Snyder, both of San Marino, planned the Hillsides Guild dinner, a perfect start to the holidays, giving guests the opportunity to remember the charity’s children and families. The proceeds enable the Guild to support the foster care children’s charity through its various enriching children’s activities. Children’s gift wishes were also displayed for additional guests who wanted to be Santa’s helpers by making a child’s holiday wish come true.

More than 125 guests savored an assortment of wood fire gourmet pizzas, house-selected red and white wines, and a delectable feast that included Parkway Grill’s signature bread basket, Cabrales bleu cheese organic field greens salad with red wine poached pears married with candied pecans, and mesquite grilled prime filet mignon, Yukon gold mashed potatoes, wild mushroom ragout, and marsala-veal reduction. Topping the palate was a hazelnut chocolate mousse pie.

Donna DeMond, the Guild’s president, welcomed guests before a special recognition was presented to Gregg Smith and Smith Brothers Restaurants for making Hillsides Guild Holiday Celebration a joyful tradition. Afterwards, guests listened to the world-renowned Citrus Singers. Adding to the merriment of the evening were opportunity prizes, which included dinners for four at Smitty’s, Parkway Grill, Arroyo Chop House, Café 140, and Cheval Blanc Bistro as well as a holiday floral plant basket.

Interested parties wishing to become members of the Hillsides Guild should contact the children’s charity at (323) 254-2274, ext. 254. Hillsides Guild membership is open to adults who want to take an active role in improving the lives of vulnerable children and youth at-risk. Visit www.hillsides.org for more information.
