Hillsides, a Los Angeles foster care charity, has appointed Dan Braun as chief financial officer. Braun will oversee all agency business matters including banking, legal affairs, registrations and filings, tax returns, investments, compensation and benefits. He will supervise three departments: financial operations, information technology, and operations, and develop and maintain the fiscal business management of Hillsides Youth Moving On program for transition-aged youth and Hillsides therapeutic school, Hillsides Education Center.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dan onto our leadership team,” said Joseph M. Costa, Hillsides chief executive officer. “He brings almost 30 years of experience to the position and also many years working in the nonprofit field. With our recent affiliation with another respected child welfare agency, Bienvenidos, Dan comes to us at a very exciting time of expansion and will shepherd the financial roll out of our new alliance. He will also play a key role in our $12 million capital improvement project of our Pasadena campus, which we are in the final phases of funding.”

Before joining Hillsides, Braun served for eight years as the chief financial officer for Five Acres, a residential children’s mental health agency located in Altadena. There he negotiated and managed $30 million in government mental health and residential treatment contracts, among many other accomplishments. Previously, he was the controller for the Autry National Center of the American West in Los Angeles, and the assistant vice president for finance and accounting for Hathaway-Sycamores Child & Family Services, a child welfare organization in Pasadena.

Braun received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Azusa Pacific University and a master’s degree in business administration from the Peter F. Drucker School of Management at The Claremont Graduate University.
