[Updated Sunday, May 12, 2019 | 6:05 a.m.] A car struck and seriously injured a 42-year-old Pasadena man about 12:28 p.m. Saturday as he crossed Orange Grove Blvd. in a well-used crosswalk at Manzanita Avenue, north of the Vallarta Market.

Police said the victim was walking northbound in the marked crosswalk when, heading eastbound towards North Fair Oaks Avenue, the car hit him and drove on.

A witness was able to obtain the suspect vehicle’s license plate number as it left the scene, according to authorities.

Lt. Max Dahlstein said the car was traced to Los Angeles and to a suspect known to be associated with a number of addresses along Marengo Avenue in Pasadena.

Officers went by foot to the Pasadena addresses and ultimately located the car with its smashed windshield. The suspect was found inside a nearby apartment, where he was arrested.

Arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run was Shemiah Marketh Chandler, 41, of Los Angeles. Online booking records show Chandler remains in the Pasadena City Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The victim was transported by Pasadena Fire Dept. paramedics to a local hospital, where he remains Sunday in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
