Family members were on the front porch of a burning home helping an injured adult when Pasadena firefighters arrived at the scene of a one-story house fire Friday night about 8:37 p.m.

Heavy smoke was pouring out of the garage of the home in the 1300 block of North Garfield Avenue, Pasadena Fire Department Deputy Chief Bryan Frieders said.

The fire also had extended from the garage and burning in the home itself, Frieders said.

It took 21 minutes for firefighters to knock down the blaze.

There were three adults and two children in the home at the time the fire broke out. The injured adult was transported to a local hospital “in fair but serious condition,” Frieders said.

The Red Cross responded to help the displaced family members with shelter and other needs because the home was rendered uninhabitable by the fire.

No firefighters were injured fighting the fire.

The cause remained under investigation. Frieders did not provide a dollar estimate of the fire’s damage.
