Southern University’s Marching Band from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, better known as the “Human Jukebox,” will be one of 20 marching bands joining the Pasadena Tournament of Roses on January 1, 2020, the band announced.
“Your Southern University ‘Human Jukebox’ Marching Band and Fabulous Dancing Dolls have accepted an invitation to participate in the 131st Rose Parade presented by Honda in Pasadena, CA!”, the band posted on its website, www.humanjukeboxonline.com.
The Southern University Marching Band is globally known as the Human Jukebox for the ensemble’s ability to perform any musical arrangement, give it newfound emotion and radiate “that old Southern spirit” to the masses.
The 275-member ensemble has been captivating audiences worldwide and has redefined the term “college-style band.” The band is complemented by its nine-member dance troupe, the Dancing Dolls, that gives the “Human Jukebox” its artistic and aesthetic icing on the cake.
The 20 marching bands will travel to Pasadena from across the U.S. and around the world, with bands from Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Mexico, Denmark, El Salvador and Japan.
A report in the LA Sentinel said Laura Farber, President of the 2020 Tournament of Roses, will travel to Baton Rouge in August to officially welcome the Southern University Marching Band as a Rose Parade performer.
The Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game on New Year’s Day attracts tens of thousands who watch the parade and the game live, and millions more who watch on television worldwide.
