Huntington Hospital in Pasadena is among the best 100 hospitals in the world, according to Newsweek which worked in collaboration with Statista Inc., a global marketing research and consumer data company.
The news magazine said it came up with the listing to help readers understand the changes currently sweeping the healthcare industry.
The 568-bed Huntington Hospital was ranked 83 among the 250 U.S.A. hospitals in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2019 ranking.
The listing included the best hospitals in 11 countries: the United States, Canada, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Switzerland, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia and Israel.
Newsweek said the countries were mainly selected based on standard of living or life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals and data availability.
The global Top 10 include: Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota; Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio; Singapore General Hospital, Singapore; The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland; Charité, Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Berlin, Germany; Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachhusetts; Toronto General Hospital, Toronto, Canada; The University of Tokyo Hospital, Tokyo, Japan; CHUV Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois, Lausanne, Switzerland; and Sheba Medical Center Tel HaShomer, Ramat Gan, Israel.
Rankings were based on three sources of data sources: recommendations from medical experts including doctors, hospitals managers and healthcare professionals; results from patient surveys; and medical KPIs (key performance indicators) on hospitals.
Over 40,000 medical experts in the 11 selected countries were invited to take part in an online survey from October 2018 to January 2019, according to Newsweek.
Data from existing patient surveys, typically conducted by insurance companies among patients after hospitalization, was collected and included in the Newsweek ranking. Among the patient survey topics are their general satisfaction with hospital, satisfaction with the medical care and satisfaction with the service and the organization.
The survey only included single branches of hospitals, Newsweek said.
Nineteen other Southern California hospitals were included in the global 1000 ranking, with 11 of them also making it to the Top 100 U.S.A. hospitals.
