Huntington Hospital in Pasadena has been named as one of the “100 great hospitals in America” by Beckers Healthcare, a business information source for the healthcare industry.
In its 2018 edition of the listing released on May 2, Becker’s Healthcare said the hospitals included have been recognized nationally for excellence in clinical care, patient outcomes, and staff and physician satisfaction.
“These institutions are industry leaders that have achieved advanced accreditation and certification in several specialties. The list also includes industry innovators that have sparked trends in healthcare technology, hospital management and patient satisfaction,” the organization said.
The hospitals were selected based on analysis of ranking and award agencies, including U.S. News and World Report’s 2017-18 rankings and others. Becker’s also sought nominations for the hospitals to be included in the list.
“Founded over 125 years ago, Huntington Hospital is a nonprofit independent hospital that provides around $101 million in economic benefits to the community annually,” Becker’s Healthcare said in the report. “The hospital holds 619 beds and is the sole level 2 trauma center in the San Gabriel Valley. Huntington Memorial is certified as a comprehensive stroke center and a STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) Receiving Center.”
The hospital was established in 1892 as Pasadena Hospital. In the 1930s Pasadena Hospital was awarded $2 million from the estate of Henry Edwards Huntington, a Southern California businessman and booster.
Nine other hospitals in California are included in the Becker’s healthcare listing.
