Coronavirus infection numbers continued to skyrocket at Huntington Hospital, according to the hospital’s COVID-19 dashboard.

As of Sunday afternoon, the hospital was treating 144 patients battling the virus. According to the hospital’s website, 30 of those patients were in the intensive care unit.

City officials reported 122 new cases of the virus and no additional fatalities. To date there have been 5,619 local cases and 145 deaths.

Lori J. Morgan, president and CEO of the hospital, told the City Council on Monday that the hospital only had 30 ICU beds, but could flex to over 30 with additional staff.

On Thursday, a hospital official said that the hospital was taking further steps.

“We are maximizing our facility to serve patients most efficiently and to accommodate this rapid increase in hospitalizations,” said hospital spokesperson Dorey Huston.

“In addition, our surge tents are expected to become available soon. Their immediate use is for patients who come to our emergency room but do not have life-threatening conditions.”
