Pasadena got an early Christmas present on Thursday.

A spanking new beautiful hotel, the Hyatt Place Pasadena, opened just in time for New Year’s festivities. It sits at the site of the former Macy’s in The Paseo at the corner of East Green Street and South Los Robles Avenue.

An enthusiastic crowd of investors and managers, hotel staff, City government officials, and community members were on hand to clink champagne glasses and tour the new hotel. The welcome party was not the official Grand Opening, which is set for February 20, 2019.

Ensemble Real Estate Solutions & Investments developed the hotel. Michael Moskowitz is primarily responsible for overseeing all of Ensemble’s development activity.

“Pasadena is a great market, a vibrant market. It’s got a very diverse set of customers both on the business side and the leisure side,” Moskowitz said. “And from a hotel point of view, it had a lot of aging supply and not only needed more rooms but it needed another level of quality and some new products. We identified it as a good opportunity.”

Moskowitz said he thinks hotels should be an integral part of the community, even for those who reside in the city.

“Hotels are community gathering spaces, right?” he said. “Hotels are everywhere. I love hotels, so I use hotels where I live even if I’m not staying there.”

Moskowitz said he aspires for Hyatt Place Pasadena becoming Pasadena’s “community living room.”

City officials were upbeat.

“The Hyatt Place is a great addition to the Paseo Colorado block, being so close to the Convention Center. It will add to our downtown vitality,” said Eric Duyshart, Economic Development Manager for the City of Pasadena. “The addition of the Hyatt Place rooms will make it easier for Pasadena to get larger conventions.”

Hyatt Place Pasadena is the first Hyatt-branded hotel in the city. It features the Hyatt Place brand’s intuitive design, casual upscale atmosphere, and enhanced food and beverage offerings.

The hotel is owned by Ensemble and is operated by Interstate Hotels & Resorts.

“With extensive public spaces, an expansive lobby, high-quality exterior materials, fully equipped meeting spaces, and a pool area and sun deck perched on the second floor, we’re confident this hotel will be one of the premier hotels in the Pasadena area,” said Brian Ehrlich, chief investment officer, hotels for Ensemble Real Estate Investments.

Hyatt Place Pasadena offers:

  • 189 spacious guestrooms with separate spaces to sleep, work and play, as well as a Cozy Corner sofa-sleeper
