This week, one high-profile Pasadena criminal cases is scheduled to move forward in Pasadena Courthouse of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Here’s an update and profile of the case.

Pretrial for Sean Lee Smith, March 13

Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Lee Smith is charged with two felony counts: assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury, after he allegedly assaulted his sister’s boyfriend on the night of July 4 and stomped on his head.

The incident reportedly occurred in Old Town Pasadena, near the intersection of Arroyo Parkway and Colorado Boulevard.

The 30-year-old NFL defensive player was arrested on August 17. He was later released after posting $80,000 bail.

On September 29, he pleaded not guilty to the charges at the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

If convicted as charged, Smith faces a possible maximum sentence of seven years in state prison, according to the DA’s office.

Deputy District Attorney Christopher Stogel is prosecuting.
