Jackie Lacey Guest Speaker at Pasadena Rotary

L.A. County District Attorney Jackie Lacey will address the Pasadena Rotary Club on Wednesday, October 1st. Lunch, meeting and speaker begins at 12:00 p.m. at the University Club of Pasadena, 175 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena. The public is welcome to attend no reservations necessary check in at registration. Luncheon tickets are $30.

The Honorable Jackie Lacey, Los Angeles County District Attorney will speak on the topic “Criminal Justice Mental Health Project” with introductions by Diana Peterson-More.

District Attorney Jackie Lacey has spent most of her professional life as a prosecutor, manager and executive in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

On December 3, 2012, she was sworn in as the 42nd District Attorney of Los Angeles County. Ms. Lacey manages 1,000 attorneys, 300 investigators and 800 support staff employees. Her office prosecutes 63,000 felonies and 145,000 misdemeanor cases annually. She is the first woman and first African-American to serve as Los Angeles County District Attorney since the office was established in 1850.

A Los Angeles native and graduate of the University of Southern California Law Center, Ms. Lacey joined the nation’s largest local prosecutorial office in 1986. While serving as a deputy district attorney, she prosecuted hundreds of serious criminal cases. She won national attention for her successful prosecution of the county’s first race-based hate crime murder. Starting in late 2000, Ms. Lacey took on management and executive roles in the District Attorney’s Office. She was named chief deputy district attorney in 2011.

Ms. Lacey was instrumental in the creation of several alternative sentencing courts to deal with nonviolent offenders. She also oversaw the development of several groundbreaking crime-fighting initiatives: the nation’s first Animal Cruelty Prosecution Program, the Graffiti Prosecution Program and the Project Safe Neighborhoods Gun Prosecution Program.

Ms. Lacey is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine and Dorsey High School in Los Angeles. She and her husband, David, have two adult children.
