Katherine Martinez Kleine Named New Tournament of Roses Foundation President

The Tournament of Roses® Foundation elected Katherine Martinez Kleine as its new president and Tournament of Roses Association members Ken Burrows, Mitchell S. Ing and Dr. Robert B. Miller to the Foundation board.

These new members replace outgoing board members Gerald Freeny, Brian James and Mike Ward who provided a combined nine years of outstanding service and leadership.

The Foundation board also elected officers: Nancy Neal Davis, vice president; Maxine Harris, treasurer; and Norma Garcia Kachigian, secretary.

Members continuing to serve on the Foundation Board are Shannon Boalt, Laura Farber, Rick Jackson, Charlie Martinson, Karen Palmersheim, and Jerri Price-Gaines.

The new president, Katherine Martinez Kleine has been a member of the board of directors of the Tournament of Roses Foundation since 2007 and previously served the foundation as vice president, treasurer, and chair of Development Committee. She is the founder and owner of CME Event Management, which produces association conferences and symposia
across the United States, including continuing education events for physicians and other health
care professionals.

Kleine is a community advocate — supporting numerous non-profits and community organizations that have measurably improved the lives and livelihood of Southern California residents and neighborhoods. She was director of government and community
Tournament of Roses Foundation Leadership relations programs at ARCO, director of government and external affairs at Sony Corporation, senior advisor to the CEO of the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, and executive director of the California Naturopathic Doctors Association. Previous board and community affiliations include the San Gabriel Educational Foundation, the California Hispanic Corporate Council, HOPE Leadership Institute, the Latin Business Association, and Big Sisters of Los Angeles.

Kleine is currently co-chair of the San Gabriel Community Foundation and a board member of the San Gabriel Valley Medical Center Foundation Fund. She is a graduate of California State University at Los Angeles.

Ken Burrows has been a Tournament of Roses volunteer since 1973 and was elected to the Tournament of Roses Executive Committee in 1992. Burrows served as the Tournament of Roses president in 2000 presiding over the 111th Rose Parade® and 86th Rose Bowl Game®.

Prior to his election to the Executive Committee, he chaired seven committees including Community Relations, Float Entries and Queen & Court. In addition to Burrows’ service with the Tournament of Roses, he was president and chairman of the Resources Council, served on the board of directors at Green Valley Mutual Water Company and as a member of the National
Home Fashions League. Professionally, Burrows is retired from Terra Furniture, Inc.

Born in Pasadena, Burrows graduated from Pasadena City College. He currently resides in Arcadia.

Mitchell S. Ing has been a Tournament of Roses volunteer since 2007. Ing has served on several committees including Formation Area, Parade Operations, Post Parade, Heritage and Music. He is a graduate of UCLA and earned an M.B.A. in Finance from California State University, Los Angeles.

Professionally, Ing has worked for 26 years in the banking industry including as branch manager of Home Savings of America, as a business officer with Bank of America, and as a commercial loan officer with Wells Fargo Bank. He currently works as the
vice president and center manager for Citizens Business Bank in San Gabriel. Ing, a resident of Monterey Park, served as the elected city treasurer of Monterey Park and is currently on the Monterey Park City Council. He will serve his third term as mayor in 2016. He serves on the Board of Education/City Council Joint Use Committee (Alhambra School District) and the California Contract Cities Association. He is married to Gloria and they have two adult children.

Dr. Robert B. Miller, a Tournament of Roses volunteer since 1984, is also a member of the Tournament of Roses Association’s Executive Committee. He will serve as the president in 2021 providing leadership for the 132nd Rose Parade and 107th Rose Bowl Game on January 1, 2021.

Throughout his extensive Tournament career, Dr. Miller has served on and chaired various committees including Coronation/VIP Tailgate, Float Construction, Television & Radio and University Entertainment. He was elected to the Executive Committee in 2013.

Professionally, Dr. Miller is a senior administrator at Pasadena City College currently serving as the interim superintendent/president. Dr. Miller’s previous position with the college was as the assistant superintendent/senior vice president, Business and College Services. In Dr. Miller’s 39-year higher education career, he has served as an academic, development, and business senior executive and has taught at the secondary and college levels. Dr. Miller and his family have
resided in the Pasadena area since 1969.

The Tournament of Roses Foundation is a tax exempt, non-profit public benefit corporation established in 1983 to receive and manage contributions from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, its supporters, and the general public. The Foundation supports charities in the Pasadena area by funding sports and recreation, visual and performing
arts, and volunteer motivation and leadership development.

The thirteen member board of directors is made up of community leaders and Tournament members, appointed by the Pasadena
