Kidspace is proud to announce the grand opening of its latest exhibit space, the Kidspace Greenhouse. Open to the public on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., the Kidspace Greenhouse is a part of the Museum’s commitment to create new learning experiences and opportunities that connect guests to the natural world. The Greenhouse will also serve as a testing platform for program ideas to debut in the renovated Kidspace Gardens, which will offer new exhibit and program experiences, scheduled for completion later this Fall.

Beginning on opening day, Wednesday, March 11, guests inside the Greenhouse can expect a mix of hands-on art and science activities. Such activities include: “stained glass” projects which explore the science of light and color theory, clay play and pot making and their cultural connections, and a more in-depth look at plants and what helps them thrive through experiences like seed-pot creation and “Wormy Wonders”, a visual and tactile experience of touching and examining worms and learning how they help enrich the soil to help plants grow. Technology will also find a place in the Greenhouse as guests are invited to use plants and a special device to create music. As the Grand Opening of the enhanced Kidspace Gardens draws close, these projects will be changed or adapted based on feedback from guests. The Kidspace Greenhouse will also provide a space for guests to view live, adult butterflies during Kidspace’s 19th Annual Butterfly Season, March 21 to May 3, 2015.

“The Greenhouse is a great way for us to test out new programming in an environment that can easily be changed and modified. Our hope is to introduce programs that have strong potential and then continually refine those ideas based on the feedback we receive from guests and fellow educators. In this way, we hope to invite our guests into the process of curating the experiences here at Kidspace,” said Peter Crabbe, Kidspace Director of Exhibits and Education. “We are also very excited to create another experience that directs children and their caregivers outside to discover the wonders of the natural world both at Kidspace and in their own backyard,” said Crabbe.

The Kidspace Greenhouse will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. when the Museum is open and is located in the Central Courtyard, adjacent to the main entrance of the Galvin Physics Forest. Programming in the Greenhouse will be suitable for children ages 4 to 10, for more information, please visit: www.kidspacemuseum.org or the Kidspace Facebook page: www.facebook.com/KidspaceChildrensMuseum.
