This Wednesday, October 14, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) will visit Kidspace to showcase U.S. mouth painter Mariam Paré, who serves as an ambassador representing the unique talents of MFPA’s 800 artists worldwide. Mariam will meet with museum guests to demonstrate how disability does not have to be a barrier to creative ful?llment and achievement, that art comes from within and is not de?ned by how the painter holds the brush, and invite guests to try out their own mouth-and-foot painting skills.

Mariam Paré was an art student when she became the victim of random gun violence. She was shot in the back by an unknown assailant and rendered quadriplegic. Undaunted, Mariam taught herself to paint by mouth and, 20 years later, has built a successful career. Like a number of her fellow MFPA artists, Mariam has achieved artistic acclaim through private commissions and exhibitions.

Her portrait of actor Pierce Brosnan, an accomplished artist himself, now proudly resides in the actor’s Malibu home. More recently, Mariam has painted portrait images of her personal artistic inspirations, various iconic disabled artists, American Chuck Close and the late Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo.
