Aaron Copland’s epic work “Lincoln Portrait,” along with other patriotic and American popular music, will be presented at La Canada Presbyterian Church’s “Americana 2017” concert on Saturday, July 1, at 7:30 p.m. The church is located at 626 Foothill Blvd. Admission and parking are free and the church is handicap-accessible.
Emmy-winning actor Courtney B. Vance, a local resident, will serve as guest actor and narrator for the presentation, which will feature the LCPC orchestra and choir — a cast of more than 120 singers and instrumentalists directed by Jack Lantz, LCPC’s Director of Music and Worship Arts.
The program, suitable for all ages, will be a multimedia concert that tells the story of our great country and some of the major events of America’s history.
Vance, who also narrated “A Silent Night, Holy Night,” LCPC’s Christmas concert last year, received a Primetime Emmy Award for his portrayal of Johnnie Cochran in the FX series “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” and is also renowned for his work in feature films, including “The Hunt for Red October.” His most recent movie is the action-adventure film “The Mummy,” which is now playing in theatres.
