La Canada Presbyterian Church (LCPC) Parent Education Program is excited to announce its 2nd semester and 2020 Parent Express class offerings! Classes fill up quickly, so register ASAP! Please go to www.lacanadapc.org/parented for class listings, staff bios, and online registration.

The Spring Infants Class begins January 22 on Wednesdays from 11:30 – 1:30 for babies born between August 2019 – January 2020. For parents wishing their newborn came with an instruction manual, Nanette Brown’s Spring Infants Class is specially tailored for parents of infants; parents will find advice, support, and sustenance in a caring group setting. Brown, an experienced instructor and mother of seven, will lead discussions on nursing and nutrition, sleep and changing family dynamics, infant safety and bonding with your infant. Group discussions also allow plenty of time for life-giving friendships between parents. This class is open to expectant parents as well.

This winter Parent Ed is excited to offer the express classes Parenting through the Phases, Parenting Elementary Kids, and Parenting Preschoolers. Initially launched in 2017, Parent Express’s purpose is to provide evening education opportunities for parents who are unable to attend our widely popular daytime Parent Ed classes. These relevant and information packed sessions provide parents with a combination of small and large group discussions focusing on practical tools for the essential challenges facing today’s parents. Parent Express classes meet in the evenings for 4 weeks and are taught by our experienced Parent Ed instructors. All classes are designed for parents only and typically meet from 7:00 – 8:30. Registration is $100 for the first registrant and $25 for each additional registrant (spouse, partner, caretaker, grandparent, etc.).

Parenting through the Phases will run from January 8 through January 31 on both Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 pm and Friday mornings from 9:30 – 11:00 am. Focused on providing parents with insight into each age of development, this class helps parents to understand what is changing about their child, what their child needs most, and four important conversations to have with their child at each age of development. Taught by Daniela Kim (evenings) and Heather Henry (daytime), the class will provide real world examples through video and classroom discussion.

Parenting Elementary Kids will run from February 5 through March 4 on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. Taught by long time Parent Ed teacher Sloan Walsh, this class will focus on providing parents with information about what it’s like to parent an elementary schooler including development, discipline, schooling, and more.

Parenting Preschoolers will run from March 4 through March 25 on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. Taught by highly regarded teacher, Heather Ehrhardt, this class will focus on understanding the developmental growth of your 3-5 year old child, self-regulation and positive discipline techniques, exploration of effective parenting styles and nurturing the parent-child bond, and finding family balance.

Kicking off its 41st year of helping families thrive, Parent Ed offers 16 daytime classes and 7 evening classes for parents of children 0-18 that provide education, friendship, and sustenance. Daytime classes include Parent-and-Child Classes where both children and adults form lasting friendships as well as receive valuable education from seasoned educators as well as Parent-Only Sessions to talk over the extra set of challenges that accompany raising elementary, tween and teen children. Parent and Child classes include Expectant and New Parents, Non-Separating Toddlers, Two-Year Olds, Parenting 3 – 4s, and Family Class. Parents with school-aged children attend Parent-Only Sessions. Classes include Parents of Elementary Kids, Parents of Tweens, Parents of High Schoolers, Parenting Your Exceptional Child, and the new Grandparenting Class. Classes meet weekly September through May and attract over 600 participants from 22 different cities. Classes fill up quickly, so register ASAP! Please go to www.lacanadapc.org/parented for class listings, staff bios, and online registration. Scholarships and payment plans are available online.
