For parents wishing their newborn came with an instruction manual, look no farther than Nanette Brown’s New Babies Class. Specially tailored to parents of babies born between August 1, 2014, and January 2015, parents will find advice, support and sustenance in a caring group setting. Brown will lead discussions on nursing and nutrition, changing family dynamics, infant safety and connecting with your infant. Group discussions allow plenty of time for parental bonding and even the youngest babies enjoy musical rug time. New Babies class starts Wednesday, January 28, @ 11:30 a.m. during II Semester Open House week and joins 13 other acclaimed Parent Education Classes!

La Canada Parent Education Program’s Open House invites parents of all children ages infant to 18 to join in the discussion of parenthood and drop-in on the class or classes that best suit their family. Parent Education offers age-specific topics designed to guide parents through childhood challenges from preparing babies first foods to prepping for the SATs. Through open discussion parents bond over the challenges of raising children and walk away calmer and more prepared to face the daunting task of raising children in today’s world.

Parents of newborns through age five attend joint parent-and-child classes where both children and adults form lasting friendships while parents with older children attend parent-only sessions to talk over the extra set of challenges that accompany raising school-age children. New babies, Infants and Older Babies classes focus on the first year, while Toddler and Two Year Old classes talk school, socializing and often the addition of siblings. Family Class invites all children newborn to age five to attend and discusses raising young children and creating calm in a multi-child family. Parenting Your Preschooler and Siblings focuses on kindergarten prep, guiding youngsters through their first educational experiences and the developmental milestones that accompany.

Parents of Elementary Kids covers the latest in brain research and how it relates to children’s development, learning, behavior and relationships. Tweeners class features large and small group discussion relating to pre-adolescent issues such as peer relationships, family communication, puberty and school adjustments, while Parenting Teens (2 sessions available) makes for a lively class on adolescent identity, family communication, dating, driving, college preparation and learning to “let go.”

For 36 years, LCPC’s Parent Education Program has maintained its legacy of quality education and reputable staff. Currently, approximately 400 parents and children from 22 cities come to campus every week—driving within a 30 mile radius of La Canada.
