The public is invited to attend a kickoff event at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 to officially commence the renovation of the historic La Casita del Arroyo. Join Vice-Mayor Jacque Robinson, Councilmember Steve Madison and La Casita Foundation representatives for the program followed by light refreshments.

La Casita del Arroyo will undergo an historic rehabilitation beginning February 2014. In 2012, the La Casita Foundation asked the City of Pasadena to participate in a public/private partnership to renovate this historic City-owned building at 177 South Arroyo Boulevard. Designed in 1932 by noted architect Myron Hunt, La Casita serves as a community meeting house for public and private functions.

The $517,700 construction project will be managed by the Pasadena Department of Public Works. The project includes upgrades to the restrooms, kitchen, great room and entry area; Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements; plumbing and electrical systems upgrades and restoration of the historic bicycle velodrome wood paneling. Exterior work includes parking lot improvements, roof replacement and new heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Funding comes from the La Casita Foundation, Pasadena Capital Improvement Project Fund and Residential Impact Fees. Project construction will be completed by B-One Construction Company, a local general contractor. Onyx Architects, a local Pasadena architectural firm designed the project, which maintains the building’s historic integrity.
