Los Angeles County Reminds Residents to Recycle Christmas Trees

Published on Thursday, December 22, 2016 | 12:13 pm

Los Angeles County provides curbside Christmas tree recycling for its unincorporated area residents from December 27, 2016, through January 14, 2017.

Residents can recycle their trees by placing them curbside on regular trash collection days. Trees over six feet should be cut in half for easier collection.

The trees will be repurposed into compost, mulch, or ground cover to help preserve other natural resources and reduce waste. Those who miss their curbside recycling dates can cut the trees into smaller pieces and place them in their green waste container.

Many cities also offer curbside pickup or provide convenient drop off locations for their residents. In general, all ornaments, including tinsel, decorations, and metal and plastic tree stands, must be removed before the trees can be left at the curb or dropped off at a collection site.

Visit the Public Works’ conservation website at www.cleanla.com or call (888) CLEAN LA for a complete list of tree recycling programs, collection sites and guidelines.
