La Salle Quarterback CJ Rettig Throws For More Than 300 Yards Despite 7 Dropped Passes; St. Anthony Downs Lancers, 56-31

La Salle quarterback CJ Rettig was in the stands as a student for the La Salle-Arcadia game back on August 17th.

When he saw the Apaches put up 50 points in one quarter, and he was asked to consider joining the football program, he wasn’t guaranteed a thing, but the senior figured he could contribute something to first-year coach Andrew Pankow’s program.

And while La Salle is now 0-8 in 2018, the Lancers are a much better team than they were some 49 days ago when the season kicked off.

There are plenty of players who leave their heart and soul on the field, but no one had a bigger impact on Friday than did Rettig.

The 6-foot-3 Lancers’ QB completed 15 of 34 passes for 305 yards.

He threw four scores and was picked off once.

But his coach would be the first to tell you that Rettig was so much better than that and mostly because of seven dropped passes among the Lancers receiving corps.

Ceasar Gudino and Rashaad Austin combined for 29 yards rushing for La Salle.

Marcus Powe had two catches for 85 yards and a score.

Gio Butteri had a pair of receptions for 71 yards and one TD.

Isaac Mora led La Salle in catches (4) and yards (99) and he too found pay dirt for the Lancers.

Corbin Jones had two catches for 22 yards and Van Haslett caught two balls for 16 yards and one TD.

What killed La Salle as its done all season are the early and sizeable holes they dig for themselves.

On Friday, St. Anthony outscored the Lancers 21-0 in the first quarter and never trailed.

La Salle will get a much-needed week off and then host St. Genevieve on October 19 to continue Del Rey League play.
