Scores of Pasadenans participated Thursday evening in an election where the results mattered, of course, but maybe less than the electoral process. And everyone was in the same party.

Under such auspicious circumstances, the “Japanese Blossom” cocktail, created by the Tap Room at the Langham Huntington Hotel, walked away with victory in the 2018 SIP-tember cocktail competition.

The popular concoction beat out strong (and delicious) competition from the “S.O.S” cocktail, made by the White Horse Lounge, “The Old Town Bell” made by Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, and Le Grande Orange’s “Money or Your Life.”

The victory was the culmination of weeks of competition between Pasadena’s favorite bars and restaurants throughout late August and September. The final round of competitors served up their best on Thursday evening, and the people voted.

Hundreds of happy and hungry Pasadenans filled the courtyard of the Rose Bowl Stadium for the 2018 “Taste of Pasadena” event, sponsored by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.

Twenty-four local eateries brought their tastiest handiwork to the gridiron.

Guests tasted samples from local favorites such as Sushi Roku, StoneFire Grill, POP Champagne Bar and Restaurant, Cabrera’s Restaurant, California Pizza Kitchen, Chick-fil-A, El Cholo, Clearman’s Galley, Pasadena Sandwich Company, and Simply Cupcakes of Pasadena, to name a few.

There was ice cream, there were cakes, there were cookies, and there was music, all surrounded by a stunning sunset, glowing through the surrounding hills and trees down on to the Arroyo Seco.
