The Lanterman Historical Museum Foundation will host their annual Holiday Open House at the Lanterman House & Visitor Center on Sunday, December 15, 2019. The free, family-friendly event will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In addition to docent-led tours of the landmark Lanterman House, activities will include a free craft, a Gingerbread House Contest and caroling with the La Cañada High School Choral Singers. Light refreshments will be served.

The 1915 Lanterman House will be festively decorated for the season. The Christmas tree on display in the ballroom has been decorated with custom gingerbread-inspired ornaments created by members of the community. Visitors will be able to decorate their own ornaments to take home with the assistance of local Girl Scout Troop 9471. Visitors can also enjoy mini exhibits tracing the history of gingerbread and Lanterman family holiday traditions.

New this year is a Gingerbread House Contest, open to all ages and skill levels. The event is free to enter, and the gingerbread creations will be on display in the Lanterman House Visitor Center from 1pm to 4pm. Awards will be bestowed by team of judges, including Mayor Len Pieroni, Carol Cormaci, and Tom Samaha, owner of Jane’s Cakes and sponsor of the event. Visitors may purchase five voting tickets for $1 to help decide which gingerbread house will receive the People’s Choice Special Award. For more information about the rules of the contest and how to participate, please visit www.lantermanhouse.org.

“Lanterman House’s annual Holiday Open House is a favorite local tradition and a time for members of the community to come together to celebrate the holiday season. We’re excited to add a new layer of community involvement and enjoyment with our inaugural Gingerbread House Contest,” said Laura Verlaque, Executive Director of the Lanterman Historical Museum Foundation.

The Gingerbread House Contest at the Lanterman House is generously sponsored by Jane’s Cakes & Chocolate Supply of La Cañada Flintridge.
