Lanterman House to Present lecture by Diane Anand

The Lanterman House will host a lecture by Diane Anand, former director of the Lanterman Regional Center. The lecture will be held on June 4, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Lanterman Visitor Center. The lecture will focus on the legacy of Frank Lanterman and the establishment of the regional center system for disabilities in California.

Diane was the Director of the Lanterman Regional Center for 37 years. She was hired in 1977 at what was formerly known as the Children’s Hospital Regional Center and remained in that position until June 2014. She was formerly a pediatric nurse and wanted the opportunity to work with children. She has a Master’s degree in maternal and child health and a law degree from Loyola Law School. Her interest in maternal and child health made her interested in working at the Regional Center, which serves over 9,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities.

The regional center system was spearheaded by Frank Lanterman, a former state assemblyman and community leader who was a strong advocate for people with disabilities. In 1970, the decision was made to change the name of the flagship regional center in honor of Frank Lanterman who helped pass landmark legislation for individuals with developmental disabilities in California.

The Lanterman Regional Center is a private non-profit corporation that operates under contract with California’s Department of Developmental Services. It is one of 21 regional centers in the state of California which together serve over 275,000 individuals with, or at risk for, developmental disabilities and their families.

The talk is free and there will be a reception after the lecture with refreshments.

About the Lanterman House

The Lanterman House is a bungalow-style historic house museum in La Cañada Flintridge, California. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The House was commissioned by Dr. Roy Lanterman in 1915 and was built by A.L. Haley, who was a prominent builder of both residences and commercial buildings in the Los Angeles area. The Lanterman House also features a historical archive of the Crescenta/Cañada Valley. The archive is available for research by the public on Tuesdays and by appointment.
