Crews battled a 10½ acre brush fire Sunday originally reported 3:30 p.m. on the Mt. Lowe Truck Trail just east of Millard Campground.
By 10 p.m., authorities had reported the blaze 40% contained and that “the majority of the forward progress has been stopped. Resources are continuing to build containment line and suppress remaining active flame.”
Canadian super scooper aircraft executed spectacular water drops and were joined by seven helicopters above the flames as 300 firefighters from the Pasadena Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire, and United States Forest Service fought on the ground.
Hikers were briefly trapped behind fire lines. Forest Service personnel escorted them safety.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s units along with Altadena Mountain RescueTeam members conducted voluntarily evacuations of nearby neighborhoods along the foothills.
Monday morning, the Sheriff’s Dept. announced the following areas are closed until at least Wednesday: Millard Campground, the Mt. Lowe Truck Trail, Chaney Trail, Sunset Ridge Trail and sections of Altadena Crest Trail.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and USFS investigations are on scene. No injuries have been reported.
