Tammy Silver today announced that Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education President Larry Torres is endorsing her campaign for Pasadena City College Board of Trustees, Area 4.

“I am thrilled to receive Larry Torres’ trust and support,” said Tammy Silver. “Our campaign is a grassroots, community-driven effort and we can’t win this race without the vote of confidence from the educators in our community. Once elected, I look forward to working with the entire PUSD Board of Education to make sure PCC serves the needs of the next generation of college students.”

Torres praised Silver in a statement.

“As a longtime teacher, I understand the critical role that leadership plays in guiding our educational institutions toward a path of success. That’s why I am proud to officially endorse and stand behind Tammy Silver’s campaign for PCC Board of Trustees,” said Torres. “Tammy comes from a family of teachers and, as a volunteer community tutor, she fully appreciates the power of a good education. She will put the interests of students first, and that’s exactly what we need to make sure PCC reclaims its rightful place as the best community college in our state.”

A successful small business owner and longtime Pasadena resident, Silver has been happily married to her husband Michael for over 30 years. Their elder son Daniel is currently a Ph.D. student in educational policy and their younger son, Jeffrey is a college student. Silver currently serves as the President of the Oak Knoll Neighborhood Association and sits on the South Lake Parking Place Commission. She also serves as the Chair of the Finland subcommittee with Pasadena Sister Cities and is a Tournament of Roses, Formation Area Committee member.

An avid community volunteer, Silver is a volunteer tutor with Reading Partners and is active with College Access Plan. She is a Guardians Steering Committee chair of the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center and is part of the Leadership Circle of Planned Parenthood.

By combining her passion for education with a strong business sense, Silver said she wants to ensure that PCC is the best run, most outstanding community college in all of California.
