Latino Recognition Ceremony Honors Personal Success, Academic Achievements of Pasadena Unified Students

On Sunday, May 15, from twelve to three p.m., the Pasadena Unified School District and the Pasadena Latino Coalition will be presenting the annual PUSD Latino Recognition Ceremony. The event will take place on the Marshall High School Campus.

Residents, teachers, students and parents are invited to attend the free event.

The purpose of the Latino Recognition Ceremony is to celebrate students’ personal success and academic achievements in the spirit and tradition of Latino cultures. The celebration is dedicated to our families and is bilingual.

Keynote speaker will be Suzanna Guzmán, renowned mezzo-soprano who has appeared as a principal soloist internationally. She has also been a host on radio and TV. She is also Director of Community Engagement, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.

Emcee for the event will be Emmy Award-winner and two-time HBO Def Poet Award-winner, Joe Hernandez-Kolski.

Attendees from each of the high schools in the PUSD will be present. The ceremony begins with a blessing led by Aztec Dance,Yankuititl. There will be student speakers. The Pasadena Coalition and the Community Organization for the Advancement in Education (COPA) will be awarding scholarships.

Members of the Pasadena Latino Coalition are: Community Health Alliance of Pasadena CHAPCare, Community Organization of Pasadena for Advancement in Education, Flintridge Center, Jericho Road, Lake Avenue Church, Latino Heritage, Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center, National Hispanic Media Coalition, Office for Creative Connections/All Saints Church, Peace Over Violence, Planned Parenthood Pasadena & SG.

PUSD Latino Recognition Ceremony will be held on Sunday May 15, 2016, 11:30 a.m. at Marshall High School (990 N. Allen Ave., Pasadena). Admission is free.
