Lythgoe Family Panto threw a season launch party at Bistro 45 Thursday evening to announce the expansion of their co-Pasadena Playhouse production of “Beauty and the Beast – A Christmas Rose” which opens this winter at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium December 13.

The opening night celebration of the show will be a benefit for Lythgoe Family Panto’s Give Kids Panto, a non-profit educational program, serving yearly over 5,000 Title 1 students across America, who will see theatre for the first time through Panto. All funds raised that evening will go to support the Panto student matinees for Pasadena Unified and Los Angeles Unified students.

The Panto company produces “modern traditional” musical theatre the whole family can enjoy, says Kris Lythgoe, founder of the company.

“It’s very traditional,” he said Thursday at the party, “but we give it a modern twist with all the pop songs, and then there is all the choreography. It’s an experience! Kids won’t have a second to sit there and be bored, there is something happening all the time. It’s something that the whole family will love.”

Known for their work on television shows like “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” the Lythgoes are dedicated to bringing affordable theatre to families across America. Basing shows on the Grimm fairy tales and others, the stories are modernized with topical scripts for parents and well-known pop songs for kids.

Lythgoe Family Panto will offer their most expansive season yet this year with four different productions playing concurrently in Laguna Beach, Pasadena, San Diego and Houston.

The City of Roses will, however, remain special for Lythgoe.

“Pasadena will always be our launch pad,” he said.

Lythgoe Family Panto began their work at Pasadena Playhouse in 2010, with productions including “A Cinderella Christmas” starring Lauren Taylor, Alex Newell and Morgan Fairchild, “Peter Pan and Tinker Bell – A Pirates Christmas,” starring Sabrina Carpenter and John O’Hurley; “Sleeping Beauty and Her Winter Knight,” starring Olivia Holt and Lucy Lawless; “Aladdin and His Winter Wish,” starring Ben Vereen, Jordan Fisher, and Ashley Argota, and “A Snow White Christmas starring a then-relatively unknown Ariana Grande and Neil Patrick Harris.

Performances will begin December 13 through December 24 at The Pasadena Civic Auditorium. For more, click here.
