Leadership Pasadena celebrated its 20th anniversary on Thursday, September 12 at the Caltech Athenaeum with a leadership luncheon and dialogue. Dr. Sarah Smith Orr, the founding chair of Leadership Pasadena and internationally known expert on leadership development led a dynamic panel discussion on “Community Leadership: The Why, What and How” with participants Jean Lipman-Blumen, Ph.D., Phlunte’ Riddle, Psy.D., Deacon Manuel Valencia and Paul Vandeventer.
Over 120 guests, leaders from various sectors of the Pasadena community, gathered to discuss changes in community and national leadership models and outcomes over the last 20 years and determine what qualities are needed to make positive impacts going forward. Pasadena Media filmed the event and interviewed local leaders afterwards as well.
The Honorary Committee included Dr. Sarah Smith Orr, Phil Hawkey, Deb Raupp, Greg Apodaca, Bill Bogaard, Nancy Baxter, Dr. Athena Castro, Ken Chawkins, Tom Coston, Josh Driskell, Dr. Gerda Govine, Mic Hansen, Cynthia Kurtz, Bernard Melekian, Ibrahim Naeem, Steve Ralph, Catherine Reeves, Dr. Phlunte Riddle, Psy.D., Hunt Salembier, Dr. Gordon K. Squires and Deacon Manuel Valencia.
Leadership Pasadena Board Chair Josh Driskell explained, “Our Honorary Committee is more than just responsible for this luncheon. Almost everyone on the Honorary Committee was a leader in creating and launching Leadership Pasadena in 1999. These are the individuals that brought Leadership Pasadena to life.”
