Martha Shenkenberg retired as Chair of the Leadership Pasadena Board of Directors after 17 years with the organization. Martha was a participant in the first LP class of 1999 and remain an active volunteer or Board member ever since. “Martha has been the heart and sole of LP for many years,” according to recent Board Member Cindy Bengtson. “She’s not just a part of LP’s history but part of its future as she moves to the Advisory Board,” Cindy concluded.
Alma Robles Apodaca is LP’s new Board Chair. “I’ve been involved with LP since its founding, but not always on the board. LP has been volunteer-run for a number of years. We’ve managed to put a class through every year since 1999, with the exception of one year. We’re now at a point where I want the organization to grow. This is really important work, and I want to ensure that we’re able to sustain it going forward. We can’t do that on a volunteer basis. My big hope for this next year is to make sure that we fund an executive director role. We’re also looking at developing a leadership program for veterans. These are our big plans. We are really looking at what’s next for us,” per Alma.
