Live Blogging from Chavez Ravine | Day Into Night: Dodgers Drop Longest Regular Season Game Ever, to D-Backs, 5-4

Game time is 7:10 p.m.

Published : Friday, March 29, 2019 | 5:03 PM

With a deep double to right field and clutch hitting when they needed it, the Arizona Diamondbacks stopped the Dodgers this morning in the Dodgers’s longest Major League home game in their history.

The game began promptly at 7:10 and by the fifth inning, the Dodgers were in cruise mode with a 3-0 lead. With two innings to go, pinch hitter Christian Walker tied the game with a three-run homer off righthander Joe Kelly, bringing in Avila and Ahmed.

The Dodgers came right back in the bottom of the 7th, as Seager brought in Pollock with a scoring single, but Arizona answered that in the top of the eight, scoring a run from David Peralta.

As the ninth inning became the tenth inning, and the fireworks were cancelled, the innings grew longer with both teams taking advantage of opportunities and the other team firing right back.

The score remained tied through a series of pitchers on both sides, until early Saturday morning, when Carson Kelly doubled to deep right field, scoring Nick Ahmed.

A lot more happened, but it’s 1:44 a.m. and you need to sleep. Here’s how we blogged it:

After an 8-home run night last night, the Dodgers go back to work against the Diamondbacks tonight.

Opening Day saw the Dodgers rock Zack Greinke with eight home runs, setting a MLB record for most home runs in an Opening Day game. Tonight the Dodgers will send Ross Stripling to the mound against the Diamondbacks’ Robbie Ray.
