Los Angeles-Based Ensemble to Headline Presbyterian Church’s Music at Noon Concert

Los Angeles-based Divan Consort ensemble will headline Pasadena Presbyterian Church’s Music at Noon concert on Wednesday, April 23, from 12:10 to 12:40 p.m.

The ensemble founded by Turkish pianist Füreya Ãœnal usually stages landmark compositions of the twentieth century. Divan Consort’s members have performed individually in many countries, as well as world premiers of recently composed pieces. They have recorded the music for the theater play BAAL by Bertold Brecht for The Sacred Fools Theater Company.

“The Divan Consort just released their debut CD ‘Refuge’ on April 1 and have been incredibly busy performing throughout Southern California and beyond,” said Anita Protich, director for the Music at Noon Series. “We are very fortunate Divan Consort is making a stop at Music at Noon.”

Divan Consort has been chosen to perform at a variety of prestigious music series and venues during their first two years of establishment. As winners of the Beverly Hills Auditions, they were invited to perform at the Previews Concert Series at Manhattan Beach, the Nixon Library, and live at the Lounge in Hermosa Beach.

The group held concerts in Los Angeles and Orange County, as well as Portugal and Turkey. They also performed at the 36th International Estoril Music Festival.

While touring Turkey, Divan Consort performed at the festivities in Bursa celebrating the 100th birth year of Turkey’s first ceramics artist, Fureya Koral. The group also gave a concert as a part of Istanbul 2010: Cultural Capital of Europe.

The Pasadena Presbyterian Church’s Music at Noon concerts are held every Wednesday. The series has been running for nearly three decades now and has featured local, national and international artists including pianists, instrumentalists, singers and choirs.
