Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 21-year-old man for unlawful sex with a minor after a 15-year-old South Pasadena girl who had been missing overnight was found with him in Altadena this morning.
The girl was reported missing Monday night by her mother from their home in the 100 block of Monterey Road about 7 p.m., South Pasadena Police Detective Mike Palmieri said.
Police had little to go on to locate the girl and turned to social media and telephone records. Using information from those sources, detectives developed leads which resulted in finding the girl safe in a residence in the 100 block of West Pine Street in Altadena by Sheriff’s deputies.
Arrested was Jose Sosa, 21, of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brian Mann said.
She was with a 21-year-old man, Palmieri said.
The circumstances of her disappearance and the exact nature of what unfolded overnight are not yet clear. Palmieri indicated the Sheriff’s Dept. may be investigating the possibility that a sexual crime occurred.
Earlier today, Palmieri said the victim had “just vanished from the house” last night.
The girl was located by South Pasadena police through phone records and social media accounts, Palmieri said.
