Bill Plaschke’s sports column has been featured in the L.A. Times since 1996. His award-winning coverage of a wide range of sports is a crucial feature of the newspaper’s sports reporting and commentary and it always draws a legion of followers.
He is the author or co-author of five books: Hard Knox: The Life of an NFL Coach (with Chuck Knox), Good Sports, Spoilsports, Foul Balls and Oddballs, American Victory: Wrestling, Dreams and a Journey Toward Home (with Henry Cejudo), No More Mr. Nice Guy: A Life of Hardball (with Dick Williams), and I Live for This: Baseball’s Last True Believer (with Tommy Lasorda).
On screen, Plaschke appeared in the HBO series Luck. He is currently a panelist on the ESPN produced Around the Horn, a weekly program that airs on Fridays.
The Associated Press has recognized Plaschke as its National Sports Columnist of the Year for six years running. He also received the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sigma Delta Chi Award twice and the National Headliner Award three times for sports writing.
Plaschke’s charitable efforts with the Los Angeles Big Brothers/Big Sisters earned him a “Man of the Year” recognition. The California Women’s Law Center also presented him the Pursuit of Justice Award.
Plaschke has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Chris Schmoke was named head coach of the Polytechnic School Varsity football team after serving as the defensive coordinator for the past six seasons. Before Poly, Coach Schmoke served as the defensive coordinator at Petoskey High School in Michigan for seven seasons. He was also a four-year letter winner and team captain at Northern Michigan University as a player.
Pasadena Quarterback Meetings are held each Friday, September through November at the University Club of Pasadena, 175 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena. Parking is available on the street (two hours) or free valet parking in the adjacent lot.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is served at 12:00 p.m. The lunch price is $25 for basic members and $30 for guests. Please RSVP for all members and guests.
