El Portal’s Tequila Tasting Draws Hundreds

 

El Portal, a popular Mexican dining institution in Pasadena, hosted its Annual Tequila Tasting on Sept. 13 to the delight of hundreds. It was an evening of tequila, food, music and fun.

Before the event, Armando Ramirez co-owner of El Portal, Yahaira’s Café and Vanessa’s Café, said 400 guests were expected.

“It’s our main event of the year,” he said.

25 tequila vendors each brought two or three tequilas for guests to sample, along with a bevy of delicious appetizers from El Portal’s kitchen and lively music from a Mariachi band.

But the main event is the tequila.

“Attendees will get a chance to talk to the tequila purveyors and ask questions about their tequila, how it’s made and what makes theirs better,” commented Ramirez.
