Major Sewer, Street Construction in Old Pasadena Starts Monday

 

Construction work on Green Street and Fair Oaks Avenue in Old Pasadena is set to begin Monday and could cause traffic delays over the next two months, a city official confirmed yesterday.

Authorities said that both streets will experience traffic lane reductions during the construction. Full street closures with attendant detours may be needed during paving operations.

“We are asking motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians to use caution while traveling through the area during construction and ask, if possible, for them to seek alternative routes,” City of Pasadena Public Information Officer William Boyer said in an email.

The work includes replacing the existing 10-inch sewer pipe with a new 12-inch pipe on Green Street, reconstruction of intersection curb ramps and retrofitting existing curb ramps with detectable warning surfaces, the installation of colored stamped asphalt crosswalks, pavement resurfacing and the installation of traffic striping and markings, according to a “Notice of Construction” document from Pasadena’s Dept. of Public Works.

Due to traffic demands, some components of the construction will occur at night, the notice says. Night work will be performed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday to Thursday. Daytime work hours will generally be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The work begins with the sewer lines. The first two operations slated are the sewer bypass installation on Green Street and replacing the line on Green Street from Mills Place to Fair Oaks Avenue.

The work is expected to continue until May 15, city officials said.
