Making Affordable Housing Happen in Pasadena/Registration Ends Tonight

Property owners, landlords, pastors, church leaders, city officials and community developers will meet on Saturday at the Pasadena Church to discuss how to make affordable housing happen from a faith-based perspective.

The discussion, “Making Affordable Housing Happen in Pasadena: Our Story, God’s Story and the US/City Story” aims to craft new affordable housing options in Pasadena.

The Pasadena Church is at 404 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena.

Presenting her inputs on the issue during the discussion will be Dr. Jill Shook, editor of “Making Housing Happen, 2nd Edition.”

Shook works with churches to bring about housing justice in the United States. She has earned graduate degrees from Denver Seminary and Bakke Graduate School. Shook has taught university-level courses in leadership and her articles have appeared in Sojourners Magazine.

According to Shook’s website, the country’s growing housing crisis cries out for solutions that work with as many as 3.5 million Americans experiencing homelessness each year, half of them women and children.

Shook’s website adds that “Making Housing Happen, 2nd Edition” presents solid theological thinking about housing, but also offers workable solutions to the current crisis by presenting true stories by those who have made housing happen. Each story features a different Christian denomination, geographic area, and model: adaptive reuse, co-housing, cooperative housing, mixed-income, mixed-use, inclusionary zoning, second units, community land trusts, sweat equity, and more.

Other presenters in the discussion includes Dan Davidson, Pastor of Rose City Church and Chair of Pasadena’s Faith Partnership to End Homeless and Rosebud Coffee (social enterprise employing homeless youth); Pasadena Housing Director Bill Huang; Andre White, an affordable housing development professional; fair housing lawyer Michelle White; and Nicole Hodgson of the Pasadena Tenants Union.

Those interested in the discussion should register by November 15 at, call or text (626) 675-1316

Event sponsors are the Epicentre Church, Lake Ave Church, Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, Knox Presbyterian, Pasadena Church, Pasadena Community Christian Fellowship, Rose City Church, Rosebud Coffee and Summit Evangelical.
