Man Apparently Accidentally Shoots Himself, Waitress in Denny’s Restaurant

Police said a man later identified as an ex-convict apparently accidentally shot himself while he was sitting at table inside Denny’s Restaurant in the 2600 block of East Colorado Boulevard at about 10:10 p.m. Saturday night, and the bullet also struck a waitress.

The 36-year-old waitress was not seriously injured and was treated at the scene.

Police Lt. Jason Clawson said the man fled the restaurant with “moderate injuries” in the company of several associates.

The man was located by police at a nearby hospital being treated for his injury. He was detained and a gun was located during a search of his car, Clawson said.

The man, a 32-year-old Pasadena resident who has not yet been identified, was arrested for being an ex-convict in possession of a handgun.

The suspect refused to tell police “anything about what had happened,” Clawson said.
