The Los Angeles District Attorney charged a Pasadena man with the stabbing murder of his mother this week.

The suspect, Alex Edward Evans, 30, reportedly called police Monday night and told them he had killed her mother, Katrina Kay Evans, 67, in their Pasadena home in the 1100 block of North Mentor Avenue.

Arriving officers arrested Evans at the scene on suspicion of murder after they located Evan’s body lying on the floor inside the residence.

Evans died of multiple stab wounds.

On Thursday, District Attorney spokesman Richard Santiago said that Evans has been charged with one count of murder with, “an allegation that he used a knife to commit the crime.”

Those charges carry a possible sentence of 26 years to life in prison, Santiago said.

Evans is being held in lieu of $2 million bail while awaiting arraignment Oct. 10 in Pasadena Superior Court.

The case remains under investigation by the Pasadena Police Department.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the murder.
