Man Dies in Single Vehicle Car Collision Which Leaves Driver, Second Passenger Injured

 

BREAKING UPDATE [8:25 a.m.]   Pasadena Police Lt. Mark Goodman said Friday morning the car’s driver has been arrested: “The driver, 22 year-old Altadena resident Diego Gomez, was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter. Gomez is believed to have possibly been under the influence of a alcoholic beverage at the time of the collision.”

 

A single car collision Thursday night reported at about 11:42 p.m. left a man dead and two others injured after the car they were in struck the south curb line of Colorado Boulevard near Michigan Avenue and then collided with a light pole.

The right front passenger, who has not been described by age or city of residence, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, police said.

The involved vehicle was a 1990’s, American, sedan. Arriving officers found the vehicle upright.

Authorities said their preliminary investigation revealed the 22-year-old Altadena man driving the car lost control of the vehicle and that he may have been driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The driver is being investigated for suspicion of impaired driving.

A rear passenger, a 22-year-old Pasadena resident, was treated by paramedics at the scene. He was arrested for public intoxication and transported to a local hospital for medical clearance prior to booking at the city jail.

The investigation of the collision is being conducted by the Police Department’s Major
Accident Investigation Team.
