Passengers arriving in Pasadena this morning on the Metro Gold Line say they were shocked to have witnessed a man’s death on the tracks between South Pasadena and Highland Park in the area of Avenue 61 about 11:15 a.m.
Train traffic has been shut down and Metro is using shuttle buses to move passengers around the affected stretch of tracks as the death investigation continues.
As a result of this tragedy, train service will be limited for South Pasadena. The train service for South Pasadena, will be limited to service from South Pasadena to Sierra Madre until further notice.
In South Pasadena, police said there will be extended periods in which crossing arms in South Pasadena will be down due to this investigation. Motorists are reminded not to drive around these safety barriers, as trains will be crossing these intersections.
One witness who was on the train told Pasadena Now the victim appeared to a white man in his thirties. The victim’s head and feet had been severed from his torso, the witness said.
There has been no identification of the victim released. It is unknown how long train service will be disrupted.
The circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately known. Los Angeles fire and police departments were investigating the incident.
