A man was shot Thursday night in what witnesses said was a drive-by shooting that sent a barrage of bullets into a residential Pasadena neighborhood.

Police said that officers responding to a call of multiple shots fired in the 1000 block of Summit Avenue just north of Mountain Street at about 8:15 p.m. located a young black man who had been shot lying in the street.

Officers rendered immediate medical aid to the victim where he lay.

The victim was transported to a local hospital. As of Friday morning, he is in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

Neighbors told Pasadena Now they heard as many as 20 semi-automatic gunshots, some claiming they heard return fire.

“Drive-by shooting,” one woman commented. “I had to throw my son on the floor, he was sitting by the window when the shots were fired.”

Another woman said shortly before midnight that Pasadena police detectives were at the scene “going up and down” the street.

“Blood trail from the young guy that was shot next to my truck and other cars parked on the street,” she wrote.

Multiple bullet casings were found in the street. The investigation, said Lt. Max Dahlstein, was in its early stages Thursday night.

Little else is currently known about the incident.
