Pasadena police reported a young man in his twenties was stabbed to death Monday night about 10 p.m. in Lot K of the Rose Bowl parking lot in the 700 block of West Drive, just southwest of the stadium.

Lt. Pete Hetteman said a passerby reportedly witnessed a group of people surrounding two men fist fighting shortly before the assault.

Shortly thereafter, the passerby found the victim, apparently stabbed, lying bleeding on the ground and struggling to breathe.

By the time officers arrived, Hettema said, the crowd of people who had watched the fight all had left the scene. The other man with whom the victim had been fighting also fled and remains at large.

The officers located the victim in the parking lot suffering from two stab wounds.

Pasadena Fire Dept. paramedics responded to render medical aid, however the victim had succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers immediately contained the scene and canvassed for witnesses.

Police identified the victim as Demetrio Tapia II, 22, of Pasadena.

Authorities said a vehicle possibly belonging to the victim was found in a nearby parking lot.

The motive for the physical encounter between the victim and suspect is unclear as the investigation is ongoing.

Detectives will continue their investigation in Lot K on Tuesday.
