District 2 Councilwoman Margaret McAustin, who will not seek reelection to her Council seat in next year’s elections, said Nov. 18 that she was endorsing candidate Tricia Keane to succeed her.

“I’m very pleased there are two women who have pulled [nominating] papers, both of whom have been active around Pasadena and certainly are qualified,” she told Pasadena Now. “I will be endorsing Tricia Keane.”

“I’ve known Tricia for a long time and find her to be a highly effective consensus builder on the Planning Commission. She has a tremendous skill set and the ability to work well with my colleagues on the council to get things done.

Keane is a deputy director of the City of Los Angeles’ Planning Department and a member of the Rose Bowl Operating Committee’s board of directors.

She’s been on Pasadena’s Recreation and Parks Commission, Planning Commission, and served as chair of the Design Commission.

“I’ve always been impressed by Pasadena’s rich tradition of citizen involvement and community engagement,” Keane said in an interview, “and I want to continue that, but also elevate it and make sure we are hearing from a diversity of voices.”

McAustin had announced in April that although she originally intended to run for reelection her husband had begun medical treatment that has caused her to rethink her priorities.
