The Pasadena City College men’s track and field team placed fifth out of seven teams at the South Coast Conference Finals held Saturday at Cerritos College. The Lancers had one SCC individual champion in heralded freshman Alexander McElwee, who raced 46.91 seconds to win the 400 meters.

McElwee continues to be the state leader in the event, but his time at the conference meet was slower than his best mark of 46.74 performed at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 16. McElwee also placed second in the 200 meters at 21.43 and he is currently seventh in the state in that event (best of 21.21).

Sophomore Khaleel Muhammad failed in his bid to become a 2-time SCC champ in the 400 intermediate hurdles as his season-best mark of 54.10 was behind winner Juan Ward of Cerritos (53.51). Muhammad is seventh in the state.

Shuo Yang settled for second in the high jump on a leap of 6 feet, 3.5 inches. Yang’s best mark is 6-4 (29th in state). Vincent Ogbehi was fifth in the 400 dash at 48.80.

Chris Miranda placed sixth in the pole vault with a season-best 14-4.5 launch. Miranda has moved up the state rankings, now at 22nd. Nathan Guzman took sixth in the 10,000 meters at 33:02.87 (20th in state).

Mt. San Antonio won the men’s team conference title.

WOMEN 6TH IN SCC

It was a quiet SCC Finals for the PCC women’s team as the Lancers scored just eight points and finished in sixth place (LA Trade Tech scored two points for seventh).

The only Lancers to score team points were Julia Sambvani, who took third place in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:07.93, and Marina Flores, who crossed the line in seventh in the 3,000 steeplechase in 14:11.56.

Cerritos College scored a whopping 314.33 points to win the team SCC title.

The Lancers’ track teams are directed by head coach Armand Crespo.
