“Metrogeddon” in Pasadena As Gold Line Trains Go Offline This Entire Weekend

Metro Gold Line riders won’t be able to take their regular train rides this weekend between the Sierra Madre Villa and Lake Stations in Pasadena, as construction crews tests signalling for the 11.5-mile Gold Line Foothill Extension project.

Riders will instead be bussed starting at 9:00 p.m. Friday, July 10 , until Sunday, July 12. The shuttles will be free of charge.

Metro is operating normal weekend service between Union Station and Lake Stations, meaning every 10 minutes during the day and 20 minutes during the late evening and early morning.

From Lake Avenue, the bus shuttles will be running every ten minutes to Allen and Sierra Madre Villa stations and back.

During the closure, construction crews will be working to tie in the signaling systems of the Pasadena Gold Line and the Gold Line Foothill Extension. While this work occurs, testing will also take place on the segment of track between Lake and Sierra Madre Villa to make sure the new Foothill Extension trains will work with the current system.

This will follow a week of continuous repair work on the Gold Line which had to do with replacing worn overhead power supply lines, and has disrupted regular trip times at certain hours of the day.

The Foothill Extension project, says Metro, is on schedule and may be finished by mid-September. In fact, the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority has announced station dedication schedules in August and September for the six stations being built along the new extension.

Metro anticipates starting pre-revenue service this Fall, and full passenger service sometime in 2016.

The public is invited to join elected officials at all levels of government and the residents of the cities during these dedication ceremonies for the Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte, Irwindale and Azusa stations. Schedules are available online on this site, www.foothillgoldline.org.
