Metropolitan Baptist Church Plans to Brings the Community Together for an Unforgettable Music Experience on Sunday

Altadena’s Metropolitan Baptist Church hosts its annual Down Home Gospel Concert Sunday to ring in the holiday season and to bring the community together through gospel music.

The concert will feature prominent area gospel musical performers and an afternoon of fun, unity and joyful singing open to all.

“What we’re trying to do is extend gospel music during this period of joy and adoration leading up to Thanksgiving,” said Metropolitan Baptist Church Deacon Joe Brown.

The concert is dedicated to the memory of a local Pasadena gospel artist named Keith Williams who passed away earlier this year. Williams was originally from New York and sang for a variety of professional gospel groups throughout his lifetime, according to Brown.

“The spirit and intent of this event is to lift up our community for anybody and everybody and that’s who we want to see come in —  not just one ethnic group — but everybody,” said Brown.

Brown described the significance of gospel music as being the heritage of the South, specifically in African-American culture. He explained that the unique style of blending voices, without music equipment to aid, is special and unlike any other form of music that exists today.

“People will get a chance to understand some of the historical heritage of gospel music and how it is sung,” said Brown.

The event features both acclaimed recording artists and local groups hand-picked to perform by Brown that include Men of FAME Pasadena, New Hope Baptist Church Male Choir (San Bernardino), Metropolitan Baptist Church Male Choir, Morning Star BC Men, Acclaimed Artist Rev. Michael Larry & Gospel Soul Touchers, God’s Elect KEISO & Church Boys, according to a press release.

“Gospel music has a flavor to it that makes it hard for you to sit down. It doesn’t matter who you are — it’s electric and lots of fun,” said Brown.

Brown expects over 600 attendees to participate in the fun. The ceremony will also feature a special recognition to Brother Eddie Fulton (Eddie’s Gospel Hour), and Deacon Osephine Washington (Gospel Revelators).

Master of ceremonies is KALI 900 am Radio Hose Rev. Walter Radford.

“It’s going to be electric, it’s going to be moving and for those who have never grown up in the gospel environment, you will never forget this experience,” said Brown.

The Down Home Gospel Concert In Memory of Keith Williams begins at 4:00 p.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church located at 2283 N Fair Oaks Ave, Altadena.
