Lake Avenue Church is rebranding its senior ministries – now called Mighty Oaks 55+ to bring exciting and meaningful activities and opportunities to those over 55+ in the Pasadena area.
Mighty Oaks 55+ has expanded to include those in their 50s, emphasizing an intergenerational approach. Patterning themselves after Isaiah 61:3, their goal is to cultivate “mighty oaks of righteousness” not just in those over 50 but in the generations to come.
More than 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci concluded that “an arch consists of two weaknesses which, leaning one against the other makes strength.”
Mighty Oaks focuses on the older generation leaning into the younger, pouring out their wisdom and experience, and the younger leaning into the older, receiving their wisdom and experience and bringing new and different opportunities not available before.
They plan to do that by hostinga variety ofopportunities geared toward seniors such as a financial planning seminars, heart health and diabetes seminars, spiritual retreats and fun events such as a Dodgers Spring training weekend for fathers and sons, and free monthly movie matinees right at the church.
These are just the beginning of all the activities plan in 2018 that Mighty Oaks has prepared for its seniors – helping those over 55 to live lives of adventure, meaning, and fulfilment.
