Pasadena City College has selected Mike Terrill as its new women’s volleyball head coach pending PACCD Board of Trustees approval next month. It is the first head coaching position for Terrill, who has served as a top assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level for the past seven years.

Previously, Terrill, 32, served as an assistant coach at UC Davis (2014-15), Ohio State (2013), UC Riverside (2011-12) and San Diego State (2009-10). He started coaching as a volunteer assistant at Cal State Monterey Bay in 2007-08.

“My primary goal is to help our players position themselves to thrive academically and athletically at PCC and in the future,” Terrill said. “I’m grateful for this opportunity. PCC already feels like home to me and I’m very excited to get started.”

At UC Davis, Terrill was the program’s defensive coordinator. For the Aggies, he coached two All-Big West Conference First Team selections in Kaylin Squyres and Kendall Walbrecht.

At Ohio State, he handled defensive strategy, scouting and recruiting while working with the outside hitters and liberos. The Buckeyes ranked as high as No. 12 in the AVCA Top 25 national poll and ranked among the Big Ten Conference’s team leaders in digs per set. Terrill also helped bring in a recruiting class ranked 22nd nationally by Volleyball magazine.

At UC Riverside, Terrill was the defensive coordinator and trained outside hitters, including two 2012 All-Big West honorees in Amanda Vialpando and Ashley Cox.

Last year, Terrill guided the Five Starz VBC club 16-1 team to the National division gold medal at the Junior Nationals in New Orleans. His squad went 11-0 and surrendered only one set to MAVBC Travel 16 in the title match, finishing with a sparkling 22-1 set record.

Terrill played outside hitter for USC in 2003-04 and later completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2006. He added a master’s in kinesiology from San Diego State in 2011.

He was a two-time (2002-03), All-Pacific League first team selection at Claremont High, earning Co-MVP honors as a senior.
